Teknion book published
The Teknion book that I created 11 illustrations for last fall has been published. Illustrations from the book have already made it into two well-regarded illustration annuals- American Illustration and 3 x 3, The Magazine of Contemporary Illustration, both based in NYC. I worked closely with Michael Vanderbyl and Vanderbyl Design in San Francisco while illustrating the book. The book is stunning- very pleased with the graphic design and overall layout that Vanderbyl Design provided. Also loving how my illustrations printed (reproduction quality). I’m very happy to have been part... Read The Rest →

Pretty cool. Great exposure from Juxtapoz Magazine. Created the biggest # of visitors to my MattDuffinFineArt Facebook page to date…
American Illustration Winner
I just got news that my work made it into American Illustration AI33. American Illustration is based in New York- jurors from the New York Times, Vanity Fair and Reader’s Digest scrutinized almost 10,000 images submitted by many of the best-known illustrators around and selected only 380 for the annual- 2 of which were mine! The two pieces they selected (below) were from the recent Teknion book project for Vanderbyl Design in San Francisco. This is the second year in a row that my work has made it into American Illustration’s annual!... Read The Rest →
Show at the University of North Texas
I am in currently in a three person show at the University of North Texas. UNT rolled out the red carpet for all three artists- they flew us out to Texas for the February 21st Opening Reception of Marking a Course and put us up for the duration of the trip. In addition, I was invited to give three lectures- one to an art education class and two more to drawing classes, auditorium-style (as in 300 sets of nerve-wracking eyes on me). The entire experience was fantastic- I felt like I was... Read The Rest →
Book Illustration Project
I have finally finished my illustration project with Vanderbyl Design in San Francisco! I completed 11 illustrations in all for a hardcover book for Teknion, a modern furniture company based in Toronto. I’m very happy with the results and feel a great sense of accomplishment- to be honest, the scale of the project felt pretty daunting at first! Vanderbyl Design is led by Michael Vanderbyl, a designer of national acclaim and the Dean of Graphic Design at California College of the Arts in San Francisco.
My work featured on the cover of Studio Visit Magazine
My work will be featured on the cover Studio Visit Magazine! I also have a two page spread within. Studio Visit is a juried publication of Open Studios Press in Boston. The juror this time around was Dina Deitsch, Senior Curator of the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, just outside of Boston. There were over 1,000 entries, so it’s an honor to have made the cover. This will be issue #21 of Studio Visit- it’s due out next week.
American Illustration Competition Winner
“Backflow,” my piece that was used for the Jonathan Franzen book cover, was just selected for inclusion in American Illustration, a well-regarded hardcover illustration annual in New York. Jurors were from the New York Times, the New Yorker and the United Nations Postal Administration. There were 8,750 submissions but only 369 will be published in the annual. The annual is hardbound and will be distributed worldwide in November.
Just out: Jonathan Franzen Cover
Jonathan Franzen’s newest book, Farther Away, has been translated into German by Rowohlt and sold throughout Germany, Austria, and Switzerland bearing my artwork on the cover! The image they used is of the piece called “Backflow.” Another similar piece called “Homestretch” is available and currently at Arden Gallery in Boston.
